Frequently Asked Questions
How do I contact or make an appointment?
Please complete the contact form or email directly ruth@ruthhennesspsychology.com
I offer a free 15-minute phone consult, where we can discuss your needs, arrange a booking or answer any questions.
What is your availability?
I work privately on Fridays and can usually offer new clients an appointment within a few weeks. I will try and help people get support either from myself or via referral to others.
Do you offer Telehealth and Face to face sessions?
Sessions can be face-to-face or via tele-health (video or phone). I have face to face appointments at 37 Perouse Road, Randwick, NSW. See Map.
Tele-health (primarily video-based) can be a convenient mode of therapy and increase therapy accessibility. You will need to find a private space and have a secure connection either on a computer, tablet or phone.
What sort of referrals do you accept?
If you have a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) referral from a GP or a psychiatrist, you can claim a Medicare rebate of $145.25 for up to 10 sessions a calendar year per 50-minute session with a clinical psychologist.
You can also self-refer or attend sessions without a MHCP, or choose to continue attending after 10 sessions, at your own cost.
What is the cost of therapy?
The Australian Psychological Society’s (APS) 2024/2025 recommended fee for a standard 45 to 60-minute consultation is $311. My fees are below this rate. Please get in contact to discuss further.Clients with private health insurance may be able to claim rebates for some of these sessions. Please check with your health fund for eligibility and further details.
Who do you not see?
I do not currently see people seeking:
-
assessments for diagnostic purposes only (e.g. cognitive, ADHD or ASD). Although, I do work with people who are neurodivergent who are seeking psychotherapy and I can administer an initial screening test
-
a court report only, although I may provide support letters for clients already engaged in psychotherapeutic treatment
-
treatment under Work Cover, and
-
people experiencing acute psychotic symptoms
How long do I need to see a psychologist for?
The frequency and length of therapy will be dependent on a range of factors including the nature of the presenting issues and their severity.
I need to cancel my session, what do I do?
Please cancel or reschedule your appointment as early as possible. If you cancel within 24 hours of the session you will be charged 100% of the session fee. Extenuating circumstances will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
